Building trust in the integration of artificial intelligence into chemical risk assessment: findings from the 2024 ECETOC workshop

In a Nutshell

Artificial Intelligence (AI) is rapidly advancing traditional approaches to chemical risk assessment. Experts at an international ECETOC workshop explored how AI tools can help scientists analyse large datasets, support the interpretation of scientific evidence and generate information and interpretations. However, the report stresses that reliable and relevant data, transparency, strong governance and human oversight are essential to ensure AI can be trusted in chemical risk assessment. The authors emphasise that AI should support - rather than replace - scientists when making decisions about chemical safety. READ ONLINE
