TR 139 – Persistent chemicals and water resources protection

In a Nutshell

An ECETOC Task Force has reviewed the current scientific and legislative framework that protects the sources of Europe’s drinking water from chemical contamination. Acknowledging the high quality of drinking water across the EU, the Task Force developed a tiered approach for assessing potential chemical risks to humans from drinking water, and identified research topics that would improve the reliability and applicability of the tools. Moreover, better harmonisation between different water legislations and Europe’s chemical regulations would also be beneficial.
