Towards a science-based testing strategy to identify maternal thyroid hormone imbalance and neurodevelopmental effects in the progeny – Part IV: the ECETOC and CLE Proposal for a Thyroid Function-Related Neurodevelopmental Toxicity Testing and Assessment Scheme (Thyroid-NDT-TAS)

ECETOC’s Special Thyroxine Task Force has completed its fourth publication which proposes a science-based EU testing strategy to predict reliably if a substance has the potential to disrupt the thyroid hormone system in humans.

The Thyroid Function-Related Neurodevelopmental Toxicity Testing and Assessment Scheme has been developed to make human safety assessments more accurate, while at the same time minimising animal testing. It also complies with current EU legislation on the identification of endocrine disrupting properties.
