ECETOC welcomes Dr Blanca Serrano Ramón as new Secretary General

Brussels, 4 April 2022. ECETOC’s Board of Administration has appointed Dr Blanca Serrano Ramón as new Secretary General. Dr Serrano Ramón officially stepped into her new role on 1 April 2022 and will be in charge of carrying out the organisation’s strategic work as well as its day-to-day management.

When asked about her new role, Dr Serrano Ramón said: “I am thrilled to be part of ECETOC, the association that brings together scientists from different backgrounds to design effective solutions to today’s and tomorrow’s chemical safety assessment challenges. I am looking forward to helping bridge the gap between academia, regulators, industry and society towards this common goal”.

Prior to joining ECETOC, Dr Serrano Ramón was Product Stewardship Director at Cefic, the European Council of the Chemical Industry, dealing with issues related to nanomaterials, polymers, particulate matter, microplastics and the classification, labelling and packaging (CLP) regulation. She joined Cefic in 2015 after 6 years as Product Stewardship Coordinator at FEIQUE, the Spanish association for the chemical industry.

She conducted her PhD research at the Technical University of Eindhoven (The Netherlands) in 2003 as part of the Polymer Technology Department, specializing during that time in nanotechnology.

“We are proud and delighted to have her on board” commented Dr Chantal Smulders, Chair of ECETOC's Board of Administration “and we are looking forward to supporting her to achieve even greater impact with ECETOC’s work”.

Dr Serrano Ramón -the first woman to be appointed Secretary General of ECETOC- succeeds Olivier de Matos, who left the organisation in September 2021.
