"Reduction of Uncertainty Enabling Decision Making"

The 2010 Cefic LRI workshop is being organised under the theme "Reduction of Uncertainty Enabling Decision Making". The 2009 workshop was focused on "Scientific Contribution for Chemical policies". Cefic-LRI intend to focus this year on showcasing recent results and outcomes of several LRI projects completing in 2009/2010, covering the key areas of exposure and human biomonitoring, omics tools, endocrine disruption, children health, carcinogenicity, and societal acceptance of new technologies.

The objective of the LRI workshop is to show to scientists, regulators, members and stakeholders the value that the LRI programme has created and introduce its future direction. The goal is to communicate on the LRI programme under the financial crisis on the short to long term, by focusing on 3-4 major policy lines.

The workshop, which will be attended by delegates of the European Commission, NGO's, academia and industry, will kick-off on 17 November with an evening poster session and dinner with guest speaker. The next day includes a morning session on external research team communications (on the above themes) and an afternoon session outlining a longer term vision of the LRI research orientations, with the involvement of our External Science Advisory Panel.

Amongst others, Professor Colin Janssen (University of Ghent) will give his vision on ecotoxicology research, Professor Tim Gant (University of Leicester) will cover human health tools, and Professor Emilio Benfenati (Mario Negri Institute) will speak about predictive models.

Mr Adri Postema (Shell), Programme Council member, will give the opening speech of the event on November 18 and present the CEFIC Innovative Young Scientist 2010 Award, recently awarded to Dr. Juana Maria Delgado Saborit of Birmingham University.

The Workshop will take place at the Radisson Blu Royal Hotel in Brussels, on 17-18 November, 2010. For more information on the hotel, please visit www.radissonblu.com/royalhotel-brussels or take a virtual tour at http://www.photowebeu.com/radisson-blu/royal-hotel-brussels/

The draft programme will be made available in due time on the Cefic-LRI site (http://www.cefic-lri.org/). Registration will open on-line in August/September.
