The Human Exposure Assessment Tools Database (heatDB)

heatdb is a public directory of exposure data sources as well as available tools for exposure
NanoApp

NanoApp

ECETOC’s NanoApp is a tool designed to define the boundaries of sets of similar nanoforms and to generate a justification for the REACH registration.
Targeted Risk Assessment (TRA)

Targeted Risk Assessment (TRA)

The Targeted Risk Assessment (TRA) estimates exposures to workers, consumers and the environment that arise during a series of events.
Chronic fish case studies towards an IATA

Chronic fish case studies towards an IATA

Why?Hazard and safety assessments for the pelagic compartment often rely on in vivo studies using a single fish species, raising ethical concerns and uncertainty in terms of extrapolation....
Estimating the environmental release of Synthetic Polymeric Microparticles from Products

Estimating the environmental release of Synthetic Polymeric Microparticles from Products

Why?REACH restriction: SPM use restricted; emissions reporting required by May 2027. Gap: No analytical methods available to measure SPM emissions. Solution: Draft SPERC-based approac...

Workshop Report no.39 – Elevating exposure science in CSA: Developing recommendations for stakeholders

In a nutshell
In October 2023, ECETOC organized a workshop that brought together participants from regulatory bodies, chemical companies, trade associations, and academia to discuss advancing exposure science for chemical safety and sustainability. The workshop, inspired by the EU Green Deal and the Chemicals Strategy for Sustainability, emphasized the need for reliable exposure data and hazard information to achieve comprehensive chemical safety assessments while minimizing animal testing and improving protection levels.

Key recommendations from the workshop included improving access to exposure information through better data quality protocols and shared platforms, enhancing exposure models with a registry and best practices, and addressing new needs related to circularity and sustainability. Additionally, the workshop stressed the importance of capacity building through educational programs and certification for exposure scientists. These recommendations aim to foster cooperation among industry, regulators, and academia, driving future initiatives to elevate the role of exposure science in chemical safety assessment and management across Europe.
