Mobility in the context of exposure‐based assessment of chemicals for drinking water resource protection

In a Nutshell

An ECETOC Task Force, established to study how best to create a reliable approach to identify potential drinking water contaminants, has published its findings in Integrated Environmental Assessment and Management (IEAM). The Task Force developed a tiered approach for assessment of a chemical’s potential to reach drinking water resources, which starts by screening for potential mobility and then incorporates higher tier tools/models as needed. The Task Force highlighted gaps in knowledge and availability of tools, particularly for ionisable substances, and proposed further avenues of research to improve the understanding of related processes.
