The demand for circular materials in Europe is on the rise, driven by initiatives such as the European Green Deal, the Critical Raw Materials Act, and the Circular Economy Action Plan. Simultaneously, it is vital to maintain the global competitiveness of the European recycling sector. Although risk assessments during the waste stage are partially covered under REACH and the Waste Framework Directive includes measures to protect human health and the environment, concerns persist regarding the limited exposure data and risk assessment guidance necessary for safe and sustainable waste recycling processes.
This webinar series will focus on two main recycling streams: plastics and WEEE (Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment). These streams are significant due to their scale and policy relevance in the EU, as highlighted by regulatory guidance and research efforts. By examining worker exposure and environmental releases at various stages of waste recycling, we aim to inform decision-makers on circularity implementation and support risk assessors and regulators in achieving safety and sustainability targets.
This webinar is the first of a three-part series, CLOSING THE GAP OF EXPOSURE ASSESSMENT IN A CIRCULAR ECONOMY.
