Advancing the Science of Non-EATS Modalities: Tackling Challenges in Metabolic Disorder Assessment
While established criteria for identifying endocrine-disrupting (ED) properties in plant protection products and biocides focus on EATS modalities, the scope is expanding to non-EATS mechanisms, where scientific understanding and validated methods remain limited. This gap poses challenges in evaluation, particularly for metabolic disorders like diabetes, obesity, and non-alcoholic fatty liver disease.
Bringing together experts in toxicology, endocrinology, epidemiology, regulatory science, and academia, this workshop will foster discussions on improving confidence in assessing non-EATS effects. The ECETOC expert group on non-EATS modalities will share their interim findings, alongside insights from other specialists in the field.

The workshop will look at the following objectives:
- Understanding the current state of science for non-EATS modalities related to metabolic disorders.
- Discussing and addressing key challenges in identifying non-EATS-related effects linked to metabolic disorders, including but not limited to:
- Availability of methods
- Data interpretation and contextualization
- Differentiating between chemical exposure and lifestyle factors.
- Identifying and prioritizing research and assay development needs to enhance confidence and certainty in addressing metabolic disorders.
This worskshop will take place in Brussels, in Cefic Offices (Rue Belliard 40 - 1040 Brussels)
