2016 Annual General Meeting and Annual Technical Meeting

Annual General Meetings represent the best opportunity for members to learn more about how ECETOC is helping them and to contribute their feedback. Every member company delegate is invited for this typically morning-only gathering. Annual General Meetings are complemented by Annual Technical Meetings, which take place the afternoon of the same day.

Annual Technical Meetings are half-day forums following the Annual General Meeting to present and discuss issues that are innovative or currently relevant to the sector. They sometimes take the format of a scientific workshop from which a report is also published. Depending on the subject, invitations to Annual Technical Meetings are opened to interested stakeholders such as policymakers, academics and consultants.

Theme: Leveraging ECETOC Achievements to Support Membership Needs in Global Legislation and Business Development

Scope

The meeting brought together ECETOC scientists, regulatory experts and business development managers within member companies to explore if and how a science-based organisation such as ECETOC can help bring best scientific practices into the International Harmonization of Chemical Regulation.

It also explored implications of ECETOC activities and how science understanding can add value to business activities in emerging markets.

The morning session provided an understanding of:

  1. Activities of ECETOC to meet current and anticipated (3 to 5-year time scale) scientific challenges in chemical risk assessment.
  2. How regulatory and business development managers see the scientific challenges particularly as we move to international harmonisation of chemical regulation.

During the afternoon breakout sessions, participants focussed on identifying where ECETOC science can help address challenges in the international harmonisation of chemical regulation.

Answers to these questions were consolidated and presented to the participants before the close of the meeting and shared with the ECETOC Board of Directors to aid their strategic planning with the focus on ensuring ECETOC continues to add value for the industry and the regulatory community in the area of chemical risk assessment.
