Integrating population-level effects into the regulatory assessment of endocrine disrupting substances
In a Nutshell
This publication puts forward a practical approach for evaluating whether endocrine disrupting effects observed in laboratory studies are relevant to real-world wildlife populations, addressing a key gap in current EU regulatory guidance. The work outlines key factors to consider in assessing the relevance of endocrine effects to wildlife populations and identified population modelling as the most practical and robust tool. Although some aspects need further development, the authors promote its immediate use to improve endocrine disruptor assessments in regulatory contexts.
