History

ECETOC was established in 1978.

Here are some key milestones in its 30 year history:

  1. ECETOC is founded and its Scientific Committee established
  2. 1st Annual General Assembly takes place

    1st ECETOC publication

    Cooperation with the International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC) begins
  3. 1st Annual Technical Meeting
  4. ECETOC participates in the World Health Organisation (WHO) International Programme on Chemical Safety (IPCS)
  5. 1st joint ECETOC/IPCS Workshop takes place

    100th ECETOC publication
  6. ECETOC relocates to its current offices
  7. ECETOC cooperates with the European Commission for the first technical guidance document

    Cooperation with European Centre for the Validation of Alternative Methods (ECVAM) begins
  8. Cooperation with the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP)/International Register of Potentially Toxic Chemicals (IRPTC) begins
  9. ECETOC, the European Chemical Industry Ecology and Toxicology Centre is re-named the European Centre for Ecotoxicology and Toxicology of Chemicals

    Joint ECETOC/IARC/ICPEMC/IPCS Workshop takes place
  10. ECETOC is a partner in the European Commission project ‘FAME'
  11. ECETOC is granted official Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO) status with the WHO

    100th scientific meeting takes place

    ECETOC is a partner in the European Commission Dermal Exposure Network
  12. New Logo for ECETOC

    The Cefic Long-Range Research Initiative (LRI) is established and so too is ECETOC's scientific support for the programme

    Cooperation with the European Chemicals Bureau EUSES Working Group begins
  13. 1st European Environment Mutagen Society (EEMS)/ECETOC joint symposium is organised
  14. Cooperation with the European Commission for technical guidance document revision
  15. New format for ECETOC publications

    200th ECETOC publication
  16. External members join Scientific Committee

    Support for Cefic LRI Phase 2
  17. Cooperation with the European Commission on White Paper implementation

    Partner in European Commission project ACUTEX
  18. ECETOC's 25th Anniversary Its first ever science award is launched
  19. A new ECETOC website including a members area is launched
  20. Cooperation with the European Commission on the scoping of REACH technical guidance documents
  21. Two new types of membership are established:

    Associate A and Associate B membership ECETOC's 100th Technical Report is published

    Dr. Michael Y. Gribble is succeeded by Dr. Neil Carmichael as Secretary General
  22. ECETOC launches its new long-term science strategy

    Publications are made available to download in PDF format to registered users

    ECETOC publishes its largest report to date on cyanides (JACC No. 53)
  23. ECETOC's 30th Anniversary

    ECETOC organises 9 workshops/symposia, the most so far in one year

    Its website is refreshed
